Tala has taverns, cafes, two little shops, even an art gallery. It is 20 min. from the nearest golf course, 15 min. from the nearest sandy beach, 15 min. from the town of Paphos with every possible amenity, and 20 min. from Paphos International Airport. It is high and dry, with very low maintenance for anyone looking for a second, rather than a permanent home.
calypso Cottage is on 1600sq.m. of land (about three-quarter of an acre) planted with carob, almond, orange, and a single, noble olive tree (it produces 5 litres of olive oil a year), all giving the house and grounds plenty of shade and privacy. A lower terrace, containing the pool house and storerooms, gives the house height and strategic depth.. The main building has sitting room with huge fireplace, dining room, modern kitchen, two bathrooms and two bedrooms. The second bedroom and en-suite bathroom are on the second floor with sunroof commanding a truly astonishing view of the sea and countryside. In summer, life is mainly spent on a large covered veranda, dripping with bougainvillia, jasmine, plumbago and mature grapevine, and with the cooling sound of a fountain. The 11-metre tile pool has superb sight-lines down to the sea and is big enough for games and races for energetic family. It's also pretty good for just floating around on an inflatable mattress. There are ceiling fans an the veranda and air-conditioning in two of the bedrooms, though the property's extraordinary position means that there are always a zephyr breeze blowing off the sea.
The guest-wing,-- about 25 metres from the main house -- has a double bedroom and a single bedroom-cum-dressing room with shower bathroom an suite, its own kitchen and patio;- perfect for visitors, or teenagers, or staff. A beautiful hand painted Portuguese tile fountain separates the two buildings, and a wide stone path, flanked by a jacaranda and a flowering willow, unites the two. There's a barbecue under the olive tree.
One of the many special moments at Calypso Cottage is sit by the pool in the shade of a carob tree at the end of the day, and watch the setting sun drop into Mediterranean, like huge, red penny. When it's dark and the stars are out, the sea turns silver under the light of a full moon.
It's an over-used word, but Calypso Cottage really is..... quite unique.
